Where's Waldo?

I feel the semester started yesterday, and I am about to present my POL. As we've learned, the best way to send a message, no matter what you want to teach, there needs to be a theme that ties everything up. Having a documentary that investigates the housing industry in our country, how could we come up with a theme that was engaging and enabled us to teach what we've learned about the topic to the audience and involve reflection about our experiences?

It was definitely a challenge. But now we are more familiar with those. So we came up with Waldo.

Why Waldo? Waldo is our metaphor for a concrete, simple and straight-forward answer. We'll speak about all the research process and how we always expected a Waldo in every source, until we discovered something vital for our documentary. There is no concrete answer to our question. Sources and information give clues, but ultimately we are the ones who come up with our own Waldo. And everybody can have it's own. We want to use information and research to guide people to objective analysis of the topic, but it's ultimately each human that uses their own intelligence to make a decision.

Through this theme, we are able to teach the audience and engage the teaching with anecdote and reflection. We will have a background of a Where's Waldo game but without a Waldo. This will zoom in continuously into different sectors of the image, and it won't find Waldo. Each try leads into a piece of information. In that piece of information we'll share our learning from it, and after we don't get a concrete answer, we reflect on why and the next step. Chronologically, we will go from source to source until we decided to build our own and we will explain how.

Hopefully, the audience will understand this allusion and we will be able to successfully give our talk and teach the audience something valuable not just about the housing boom, but about how to take on the process of research when facing a topic as complex as this one that isn't like a math equation, there is not one correct answer.
