Given the autonomy we receive at the IA BlendZ was born, with the purpose of causing beneficial social impact as the result of any kind of business. Perhaps our smoothies are one of the healthiest food options on campus and do foster positive changes; our main social development project going hand-in-hand with BlendZ is Habla Roosevelt: a project based on teaching english to the kids of our school workers.
This semester we've transitioned from having 10% of our profit go to the fund of Habla Roosevelt to 100%. We have enough money to get equipped to a level in which we can't invest more because of lack of demand. Having a successful program would mean possibly for the next group of people who take over our company spreading it throughout schools in Lima, maintaining the basic ideas and culture we work with. Every Saturday we'll organize 3 hour sessions to teach more than 30 kids (during our opening semester) how to speak conversational english.
Now, as I reflect on the chances we face and how we have arrived to a such optimal spot, I take note of how we've made the right choices and balanced the three main learning incentives: autonomy, mastery and purpose. In BlendZ we have all of them to our benefit. We have earned the right to own our choices and decisions and we feel we have a compromise with our mates, ourselves and our "little baby". In terms of mastery, there's no doubt how much we've learned. Having to go through this entire process and doing it for the first time have nothing established has been an amazing experience. Truly, the way we look forward and take time to reflect constantly shows how much we've developed; what we can envision for the future of BlendZ as of today is not exactly the same of what we saw it at the start but that development is key. Finally, the purpose is clear, for us and for the surrounding community. When all of this is done right and because one truly wants to do it right, ownership of the company increases and everything hand-in-hand will improve. Just as the way we are now investing in BlendZ the money earned from our stock market investments more than one year ago. Having doubled our objective (we earned 20%), we face new chances to accelerate the growth rate of our company.
Now, during this last semester, even though many of us have already been accepted into college, we work to establish BlendZ fully and set everything for the following group to own it smoothly. We want to have everything rolling: the full showcase of BlendZ at FDR involving all the equipment, set roles and ways to do things and Habla Roosevelt started. We do it because we care about it, because we believe in it and it's impact; that's why in my opinion, BlendZ has been successful.
