I waited in a cafeteria until 9:00AM. Then, I walked into the building. At first, everybody had a strange look at me, until I met my mentor, and she presented me to almost everybody, and they were all welcoming. For the first hour, I couldn't do much, as such an important company, they needed to do everything official, so they were registering me as a worker as I read and signed a series of documents I needed to agree to,
Finally, I got to my office of Gestion de proyectos y planeamiento alongside 5 other workers, I was replacing one of them who was on vacations. Our job was to build financial reports for the public, giving them the information they need to invest, consequently meeting one of the objectives of the company.
It was wonderful. I recall using one of those for my finance project. A report of mine companies in Peru, which I could hardly read. Now, it was my turn to make one. I started working in Excel, my report was going to compare the spendings of the stock market's as companies from Peru, Colombia, Chile, Mexico and WFE (World). The first step was to divide all the categories we wanted to analyze. Then, we needed to find the information. By the end of the day, we had done it. The report was done by me and my co-worker, and today we are going to put it in a PDF and send it to the public.
Great experience. Learning to collaborate with people I didn't know, I learned how to fit in a company's working environment, how to use excel efficiently, where to get reliable information for finance reports and the whole process of building one of those. Definitely, I would have never learnt this in school, even if I had 5 more years to go. Now, I am starting to discover this amazing value in my internship, and I am eager to go work today!
