In order to start this new project, the task for each student was to brainstorm an idea (product or service) for a business. Thursday's class was full of excitement; each of us showed energy and passion while pitching one's individual business idea. For me, finding an idea was tough. I thought through all the activities and everything I do in my daily life, trying to find a flaw in a system which I could improve or something that was completely missing that would make it better. Once I had an idea, I had to make sure it was desirable, viable and feasible.
After a while brainstorming different ideas, I came up with Tiki Taka; a sports restaurant in Lima where people can meet and share their passion for their team. I noticed a lack of places where people could go and watch games. I knew only about three of them: The Corner, which didn't allow under 18's; Estadio, which is downtown; and Como ague para chocolate, a place where the dutch get together to watch their national team. Personally, I know few true Chelsea fans around Lima. Meanwhile, my peer Domenico doesn't know a single passionate BVB fan.
I knew this was a great idea, but opening a restaurant isn't feasible as a school project, so I adapted my idea into something that was possible. I wanted to prototype this restaurant at school. Use a "chilling space" in school (maybe in a place we create for our business) and turn it into Tiki Taka for special games. By doing this, I could experience the audience's reaction and receive real feedback to a potential business I could launch in the future.
During my presentation, I showed how passionate I was for my idea, and by connecting to the audience by asking them questions, I made them understand why this is an issue that we could address.
After the presentations, the excitement had to be paused, for us to consciously think about each idea and proceed into selection process in Monday. No matter what idea we chose to work on as a class, I have no doubt that it will be one of the best learning experiences I'll have. And we all know that we are showing passion and excitement for this project, and that does lead many times to beautiful work.
